|GOOD FOR: Sensitive and Hyper Sensitive Skin . Mature Skin . Patchy Rough or Dry Skin . Stressed Skin.|
In my recent batch of skincare products to try, there were two gems: a very light, citrus-y vitamin serum from 40 Carrots and soothing comforting cream from AHAVA. I am finding that both work well for my sensitive skin, both before and after electrolysis. They also work together in tandem synergistically to make a simple skincare routine as my stressed sensitive skin heals.
Applied to clean skin, the Retinol-rich, Carotene-powered Carrot + Vitamin C Vitamin Serum feels light and well, for lack of a better, less over-used adjective… breezy on my skin. According to the box, the serum “restores and brightens stressed skin,” which I am happy to report, is very close to the truth. It’s not easy for any skincare product with truly robust ingredients and real restorative power to feel light. For a serum, this product is about as light as they get. I have found that I can even skip my sometimes face-stiffening moisturizer on lots of days and use this as a last step.
Another gem in my wonder basket of skincare treats for troubled, stressed out skin was a small tester of Scout and Pep’s Blemish Fighter Serum with one of my old favorites (argan oil) and a new favorite discoveries: tamanu oil. (I love the generic-looking labels–very retro grade school-sweet. Scout and Pep is a small batch organic skincare company out of Nashville.)
Good News for Troubled Skin
Tamanu oil is extracted from the seeds that grow on the tropical evergreen tree called a Tamanu nut tree. Traditionally in Polynesia and other areas, the oil is used topically to treat burns, scars and infected wounds. Because of its antibacterial properties (confirmed in a 2015 study listed by the NIH here), it is good for treating acne. (Other skin issues such as dermatitis and eczema are also mentioned in the study.) Besides its documented wound-healing properties, the oil is rich in antioxidants which also work for the healing of scar tissue like acne.
Among the other beauties was a 50-ml size of Time to Treat Comforting Cream for Sensitive Skin Relief from AHAVA out of Israel. It’s made from a blend of minerals and waters from the legendary Dead Sea, combined with narcissus bulb, tomato extract, and more (and it is vegan and paraben-free).
PRO SHOPPING TIP: As of 2-11-2020, AHAVA Time To Treat Comforting Cream was out stock on their site and on Amazon. The Time to Revitalize Extreme Day Cream is not the same but is a close second if you want to order a moisturizing product right away.
